.: nutrition.vitamins and supplementsIn the following pages are a brief history of what is now considered alternative medicine, although its roots extend as far back as recorded history. This is followed by the supplements I am currently employing, a complete technical description of the TENS pain control unit from Resonant Light Technologies, and a short discussion about Chiropractors and other alternative medical professionals.
Introduction to Alternative Medicinal History This is another of those areas that has much ground to cover, although most of the information is rather succinct. A brief history of what is now called “Alternative Treatments” is in order. With modern medicine we tend to think that everything prescribed always came from a pharmaceutical manufacturer somewhere in the background. It is just not so. Pills and medications that are pre-dosed and prepackaged on your pharmacists shelf are a relatively new thing. Most “drug stores” were just that until 20 or fewer years ago. The few that are left are now more commonly called compounding pharmacies. The pharmacist would look at what the doctor had prescribed and then literally go to his wide selection of liquids and powders and put together what you were to take. He did not just go open a jar and count out a bunch of pills. Ever so slowly the small, independent pharmacy has closed its doors to be replaced by the bigger chains where 99% of everything is prepackaged. From a normal standpoint if you are taking regular medications, there is nothing wrong with that. Pharmaceutical companies were brought into being to standardize the compounding of prescriptions . In theory, the idea is sound. If you needed a medicine for your ailment that is more efficiently utilized by your body with a component taken from an obscure plant in New Mexico and you lived in the Midwest, no problem. But, it seems as though profits got in the way of care. With the need to have the exotics available anywhere a pill was needed, came the biochemist who synthesized and ultimately no longer needed the natural extract. Unfortunately, synthesis is not always a good thing as far as our bodies are concerned. But, that’s another story altogether… Herbal treatments for illness and disease have been around as long as recorded history. As far as cancer is concerned, the oldest recorded herbal treatments date to the Hindu written epic Ramayana (circa 500 BC) where an arsenic paste was used as a poultice to extract tumors from the skin. Hippocrates (the father of modern medicine) who lived between 460-377 BC, recorded using caustics (ointments that burn) in conjunction with cautery (an object such as a heated iron poker that would sear the flesh) to remove tumors. The Roman physician Celsus in the 1st century AD, was the first recorded person to use surgery to remove a tumor. By the middle of the 5th century AD, Islamic culture had come to dominate European medicine and surgery was strictly forbidden. Between the 6th century and the Middle Ages, herbal medicine was quite literally the only game in town. With the onslaught of the Inquisition, came the end of herbalists as “witches” and “demon possessed” and medicine took one giant step backward. The common conception was that if you developed some type of medical malady, it was a direct punishment from God for your evil doing and you either lived or died according to your deeds. Mind you, doctors were still utilized, but they allowed pain and agony to be part of the ritual so you could atone for your sins. (Great guys to have around) The first person recorded to suffer for the “sin” of healing someone outside of mainstream medical practice was Jacoba Felicie. In 1322, she was pulled into court at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris. Her crime (ultimately punished by death) was to cure her patients of internal illnesses and wounds; plus she had the audacity to visit the sick (make house calls). The Inquisition hung around continental Europe until its last vestiges were extinguished in 1834. Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, herbalism thrived. Chinese herbalists have practiced their art for over 2,000 years and still do so today. In the mid to late 1700’s, over 200,000 medicinal compounds were catalogued from plants found in the USA alone. All the way up until the early part of the 20th century, the mainstay medical world utilized these herbals as part of the healing process for virtually anything requiring medication. Then came along the pharmaceutical companies and herbalism began to fade away as part of mainstream medicine. Enter Harry Hoxsey. Here was a man who never even completed high school, but for over 40 years ran 17 cancer clinics around the U.S. with amazing results. All his clinics employed licensed MD’s and all patients were only treated by them. Yet Harry was arrested more times in medical history than anyone else for practicing medicine without a license. He was convicted on a number of charges, but he battled the FDA, the NCI, and the AMA for 3 decades and eventually won it all, with numerous Federal court decisions and medical boards all agreeing he legitimately cured cancers. However, the harassment never ceased and without “official” endorsement from the AMA, the FDA, and the NCI, he shut everything down in 1963. I mention him here, because one of the treatments I am employing is his famous elixir. The major of the components that comprise his curative have, within the last 20 years, been proven to have anti-cancer/tumor properties, especially in synergistic concert with one another. Yet another case where science is just catching up to application. NOTE!!! Please understand that not everything out there is a legitimate curative. Many, many people outside of mainstream medicine are quacks of the first order. Many “cures” only cure you of possessing wealth. But not everything is a fake and not everyone a charlatan. The research to find the good ones referring to both medicines and people is a daunting task, but the rewards can be tremendous. Again, I am not advocating anyone follow the path I have chosen for me. What I am using is based upon many, many hours of diligent research. What I have chosen to use has legitimate, documented results. It is not pie in the sky hope. Whether it will be successful for me, only time will tell, but I personally feel better about my choices than what conventional medical wisdom would have chosen for me. Your decisions must account for the type and severity of cancer, the quality of life you wish to maintain, how much time you wish to and can afford to spend on treatments, how much pain you are willing to endure, how much of a lifestyle change you care to make, and how much money you can afford to spend. All of these things and perhaps other factors I did not include in my decision are what you have to wrestle with to be comfortable with what you face. Supplements Currently Being Used and Theoretical Alternative Strategies for the Treatment of Cancer I decided upon a third career path in my life devoted to Naturopathy as a way to give back to society for the years I have taken. What remains of my time will be devoted to helping people primarily afflicted with cancer. To that end, my personal research is presented here for everyone to see. There are no secret formulae, no incantations, no patent medicines, no hocus pocus as to what I am doing. I believe that everyone should be able to treat the disease(s) that trouble them by any means they choose. But I would hope those treatments are based upon rational decisions based upon scientific study. To that end, what is here is for all to benefit from. Understand that I make no claim to be able to diagnose, cure or treat any disease. I am presenting a synopsis of my research to date. This is what I am doing for me. You need to discuss fully with a health care professional any concepts presented here. I was diagnosed November 9th, 2004, with terminal kidney cancer. The allopathic solution to my physical inconvenience is to remove both kidneys and place me on dialysis. This, to me is not an option I would care to endure. I began an earnest search for alternatives and have arrived at a reasonable, at least to me, approach. I have spent over 25 years as a scientific researcher, although not in fields related to medicine. I do, by virtue of my background, know how to look for details that frequently elude others not normally engaged in digging for answers. This is not a put-down of anyone’s abilities to do their own research. To the contrary, I strongly encourage everyone to do so. I am simply providing the place to begin. What is here should not be considered an end-all. It is not that for me, nor should it be for you. A broad outline is hereby put forth. All forms of cancer have certain commonalities. They steal resources from your body. They rapidly proliferate. In order to combat cancer, it is necessary to not just treat the disease symptomatically, but rather search for key elements controlling proliferation. I have identified six such common entities.
By choosing a select series of supplements including herbal concoctions, it is possible to put cancer in remission by addressing each of the above named points. Again, not everything will work for everyone. There are no absolutes other than the unpredictability of life in general. Anyone who claims to have the “cure-all” is running a scam and ultimately hurting everyone seeking the truth. That goes for allopathic medicine as well as alternative strategies. My personal belief is that there should be a reasonable blend of disciplines. If you choose to endure surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, there are a number of things to do that will support your body’s ability to recover. These should not be overlooked because someone in the medical profession is too narrow-minded to believe nothing works other than what is proposed by them. The same holds true for alternative practitioners among which I am working to join the ranks. What works best is what will work for each individual, not just everyone. What I propose is simply natural solutions that support your body’s fight against the abnormality of cancer. It can be a stand-alone process or can be used to augment conventional medicine. What you choose to do with my research as presented is your decision. I have located over 1,700 scientific studies on only 36 natural compounds used in the fight against cancer. How many more studies there are on the more than 1000 compounds believed to have positive cancer fighting properties is unknown. I have seen numbers exceeding 20,000 but cannot vouch for the accuracy of that count. What is listed here should work generically for just about any form of cancer, although I have targeted specifically carcinomas. From my research thus far, there are potentially subtle differences between carcinomas, sarcomas, and lymphomas as in how to approach them as well as each specific type of cancer whether it be lung, brain, liver, etc… More will come out as the research evolves. Also note that cancer should never be considered “beaten” or “cured”. You can put it in remission and it may never again surface, but to claim a cure is lying to yourself as well as those around you. Natural solutions are not “quick fixes.” There are occasional rapid remissions, but do not expect them as the norm. Do not mislead yourself or others into believing that it can all just disappear overnight. It will not happen as a reasonable expectation. If it does, you are lucky. If not, you are normal. Sometimes there is just nothing that will work. Why? I surely cannot answer that, nor can anyone else. Everyone will eventually die and that is a fact that all must face. The complexity of the human body is so great that cancer is only one factor in the life cycle. It is a decisive, devastating occurrence, but not the only thing that kills. Part and parcel with what is presented here are the amounts of what I am using. Too much of any of these can bring disastrous results. What you are using to fight cancer can, in the wrong quantities, actually sustain and feed it. Therefore, caution goes along with application. Do not over-prescribe. I have run into that problem with a number of people’s efforts already. I am admittedly a novice in the arena, but not researching and understanding what others have learned is no excuse to just do something. It has simply led me to the belief that much work done by good people is thrown out by most others because a few are careless about what they do and all suffer as a result. Cancer cells thrive in an environment with free radicals. Free radicals cause what is commonly referred to as oxidative stress. The more stressful the environment, the more mutated the cancer cells must become to survive, and the more aggressive they become. Mutator Phenotype Theory states that cancer cells have two characteristics. (1) They contain mutations that are allowing them to survive in the current adverse situation. (2) They can mutate easily allowing them to readily adapt to any new environment. This is genetic instability. This is a key reason that many forms of chemotherapy have only moderate success. They only attack from one perspective with no redundancies to fall back on if the cancer cells are able to further mutate. Persistent Oxidative Stress Theory proposes that although some cancer cells will die because of free radical damage, the majority will adapt and propagate. Therefore strategy number 1 is to reduce the oxidative state that cancer cells prefer. This is accomplished with antioxidant supplements such as vitamins C and E. This is not to be confused with supplying oxygen to cells. Antioxidants keep free radicals from "burning" or "oxidizing" good cell structures where supplying oxygen to cells is helping cells to breath normally. Our second point of attack is to look at how the mutated genes produce proteins that mask the cancer cells. At this point, there is a very critical relationship of antioxidant vitamins and the neutralizing of free radicals. As the free radicals are contained, the effect is to change the relationship of transfer factors to the corresponding DNA. The 3 most important transfer factors in the cell level activity are p53, NF-kB, and AP-1. All of these transfer factors are needed in normal cells as well as cancerous entities. However, by controlling their activities with natural compounds such as curcumin, apigenin, luteolin, quercetin, and Selenium, it is possible to greatly reduce, and in some cases totally inhibit the unwanted protein production in cancer cells without affecting normal cells. Our third area of concern is how cells communicate with each other and their immediate environment. The problem here is that we need to control, for lack of a better description, the volume at which the cells communicate. Cancer cells produce a much greater volume of signal. These signals tend to want to make the cancerous body spread or proliferate. This signal movement is controlled by most typically kinase enzymes and ras proteins. Normally cells transmit signals between themselves that either tell them to live or die. The strength of the signal is what determines cell life and replacement. However, with cancer, the “live” and “propagate” signals override the “die” and “do not proliferate” signals and in essence the immortality of cancer happens. The two cell proteins we are most interested in exciting for positive action are p21 and p27. The natural compounds that do this the most effectively are vitamins A, D3, and E, plus Silymarin (milk thistle) and about a dozen common flavonoids. We next must be concerned about the actual tumor growth and metastasis, and what can be done to curtail it. In order for a tumor to grow (invade surrounding tissues), the tumor must dispatch enzymes of its own to destroy the adjoining areas. Once the cellular structure of normal tissue is negated, the tumor can then migrate. The same basic construct occurs with metastasis in that enzymatic action attacks blood vessel walls and allows a release of tumor cells into the blood stream. To protect normal, healthy tissue, several actions must occur. What is terrifying about this occurrence is that more than likely the enzymes that are attacking the healthy cells are normal microphages that become overexcited by the tumor. Cancer produces a cell matrix that tends to be undersulfated. This means the proteoglycans common to all cellular structure are altered in such a way as to not glue collagen and other protein fibers together which is what normally bonds one cell to another. Once this happens, metastasis can occur. Natural compounds that fight these actions include garlic, onions, horse chestnut extract, luteolin, curcumin, geniestein, PSK and other mushroom polysaccharides, vitamins A and C, bromelain, astragalus, feverfew, and ginseng. Angiogenesis is a normal process the body uses to repair itself during the wound healing cycle. However, when part of a tumor growth process, angiogenesis is uncontrolled and never quits. This is in essence the lifeline of a tumor, the means by which it is fed. Therefore, anything that can be done to disrupt the process is a very important item to consider. Cancer loves a hypoxic condition (lack of oxygen). This is not to be confused with oxidative stress. During the healing of a wound, hypoxia occurs because of a lack of blood flow to the damaged tissues. In tumors, the same oxygenless state occurs because of 2 factors; inflammation which reduces blood flow and the chaotic development of a blood supply inside the tumor. The other factor that enters into the picture is the permeability of larger blood vessels where the tumor’s capillaries can attach. It is necessary to build up the strength of the walls as much as possible to resist the attempts for external capillaries to attach. Natural compounds that help resist angiogenesis and help support vascular walls include: butcher’s broom, horse chestnut extract, boswellic acids, curcumin, flavonoids, garlic, melatonin, resveratrol, squaline, and vitamin E. The last consideration in fighting cancer from a natural source base comes with the building up of the body’s immune system. The problem here is that cancer is good at hiding itself from immune system detection. Therefore in order for the immune system to attack and win, it must be able to locate the cancer cells. In my case, kidney cancer’s only real chance of being defeated by the body rests on this key factor. Of primary concern is the proper feeding and support of the immune system. In addition whatever is used must be able to degrade the special protein coverage that tumor cells develop as a defense mechanism. For this part of the battle, the following natural compounds appear to be well suited: astragalus, ginseng, shiitake mushrooms, glutamine, selenium, vitamins C and E, and protoeolytic enzymes including bromelain, papain, trypsin, and chymotrypsin. In total, there are more than 1000 possible choices of natural compounds. My studies have lead to a blend 39 items I feel to have a better than 80% chance of putting my cancer in remission over the next 3 to 5 years. Not a quick fix. I want to throw in a brief note about juicing. This goes back to the readily availability of phytonutrients including flavinoids and trace mineral elements that your body uses. I would encourage it as a regular activity. See more on this topic under Nutrition When you eat a salad, for instance, you are able to normally utilize only about 25-35% of the available nutrients. By running the same vegetables through a juicing or pulping process, you can then take advantage of somewhere between 65-95% of all available nutrients depending on whether or not you add back the pulp and what type of actual juicing process is utilized. I personally combine a mixture of romaine lettuce, celery, tomatoes, kale, broccoli, spinach, swiss chard, parsley, water cress, and cilantro. I do vary my selections from this group of vegetables from day to day in that all of them also have some form of natural toxin present that your body needs time to flush from your system. So by rotating my food choice, I can utilize the needed nutrients as well as prevent toxic build-up. Each thing listed here could indeed have a book or two written about it. Again, this is not an encyclopedia that I am putting together, it is a collection of rudimentary facts so you have a baseline to work with. Some items will have more information than others, especially things that you would not normally look for, but still it is just a very brief synopsis of what I am taking or what I am doing. The list here should not be considered the last word in what will work definitively for everyone or will cover all the bases for everyone. If I add or change things to what I am doing, then this list will change accordingly. A dosage schedule follows the supplement list. I again strongly urge you to talk with a health professional to get dosages that will work correctly for you. All standard preparations are all top quality companies and top quality products that I personally am using to combat my cancer.
Click on highlighted brands or products to take you to the selected vendor. Acidophilus is a yeast type culture commonly used to start yogurt. It is an enzyme commonly present in your stomach and serves a number of health-related uses. The product I use is NOW Acidophilus Super Enzyme and it contains 8 Billion (with a capital B) active cultures. Most other capsules on the market are significantly less, some of them up to 100 times less strength. Adrenal powdered glandular supports the cortex portion of the adrenal gland. The adrenal cortex is the outer portion of the adrenal gland and is involved in the secretion of a variety of adrenal hormones. I use 400 mg capsules from Professional Complementary Health Formulas. Bromelain is a proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme. While most enzymes are generally considered to be poorly absorbed, bromelain is one of the most bioavailable of all enzymes and has been the subject of numerous studies worldwide. Although Bromelain is derived from pineapple, the majority of it is found in the stalk, not the pineapple itself making supplementation necessary to achieve optimum levels of this enzyme. I use NOW 500 mg tablets. Calcium is needed for strong bones and teeth and for healthy gums. It is also needed to maintain a normal heartbeat, for the transmission of nerve impulses and for the proper functioning of muscles. I use Buried Treasure Liquid Calcium Plus.
Chimaphila or Pippssiawa (native American name) is a kidney tonic. This is a specialized medicine using a very minute amount similar to a vaccine, made up specifically for me by a homeopath. It is not readily available and must be specifically compounded. Cordyceps is a mushroom extract that is primarily used to fortify the kidneys. I use Soloray 500 mg capsules. Barlean's Flaxseed Oil has so many good properties it is hard to know where to start. The short view is that it is an excellent source of Omega 3 oils that are very positive immune system supports. (See the section on nutrition basics for a brief discussion on Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils) Barleans’ cannot be beat. Be sure you get the oil with lignans as these have very powerful anti cancer properties. Lignans act as antioxidants, antiproliferative, antiestrogen, and antiangiogenesis factors, all of which suppress and can possibly reverse tumor growth and metastases. Flaxseed oils must be refrigerated to maintain potency. Be careful to buy only cold pressed as it is easy to damage the properties of flax seed oil with bad processing techniques. One side note: Omega 3 oils are one of those things that can be used to excess. If not kept in a proper balance with omega 6 oils, your body will suffer. A reasonable and safe level of consumption for omega 3 oil is approximately 1 tablespoon per day. CO Q10 is a supplement usually taken for heart conditions. The 1200 mg per day I am taking helps to repair cellular level DNA destroyed by cancer. It is also a support supplement for the lymphatic system that is certainly on overload at this point. I use Now 400 mg softgels. The Curcumin I use comes from Swanson. Hoxsey Elixir. This is the mixture that was made public after his most famous battle with the FDA. Roughly 20 years after his death, his formula was fully analyzed and the conclusion was that the preparation is a blood builder, mildly stimulating. The immune system is urged to eliminate pathological (cancer cells) build-up and rebuild itself. The protocol addresses the systemic nature of cancer in general, not just localized spots where it is found. This is one product that should be made by a competent professional. It is very well worth investigating. All items are listed as would be put in a pint container. This description is provided for information purposes only. There can be absolutely no inference that you should make or use this to treat any disease or condition. Potassium iodide (150 mg), Buckthorn bark (20mg), Licorice root (20 mg), Red cover blossoms (20mg), Barberry root (10mg), Burdock root (10 mg), Chaparral root (10 mg), Stillingia root (10 mg), Cascara sagrada (5 mg), Prickly ash bark (5 mg). The elixir was made into a liquid and had honey drip cane added. The max dosage is 1 tsp 4x daily. It was to be used until bowel movements quit being tar-like. My original listing for “Hoxey formula” was just what was shown in virtually all of the books and articles out there on the topic. I strongly suspect that at best this was the generic starting place for his cancer protocols and everything was modified according to need from that point on. I have done the same thing by starting there and now moving on. I found Gaia Herbs has a “Red Clover Hoxey” tincture. I chose to start with that and have put together the following formula as a basis for myself utilizing the research done thus far. For a one month’s supply I mix the following, place in a dark, 1 pint bottle and fill the balance of the way with freshly distilled water and shake well. This then is adequate to dispense in my drink mix in a 1 tablespoon dose per day. Gaia Herbs provides one of the few standardized extracts on the market. I am switching over from the "grind it yourself" mode to purchasing high quality extracts. In many cases this can be a much better alternative in that the product will be fresher and more uniform than what I can do for me. As I work out details, I will make available some suggestions of combinations to discuss with your local health care professional. Drop an email or call for updates. My current mix is as follows:
MSR-3 is a mushroom polysaccharide combination of Reishi, Mittake, and Shiitake mushrooms that is put together by Swanson. I am very satisfied thus far with their products. Multivitamins. Everyone has a favorite. Nothing outrageous is needed. Quality is far more important than quantity. High absorption rate and ease of absorption are more important than anything. I use Buried Treasure Liquid Nutrients. One note here: Vitamin D levels need to be high for processing other nutrients and the source should be other than dairy products as discussed in the section on nutrients and foods. Try to get a minimum of 600 IU per day. The combine amount I use from Buried Treasure Nutrients and Calcium is equal to that. NOTICE: There is much controversy in the field of cancer about the value and/or harm of B complex vitamins. At the present time I am researching this further. There is merit to both sides of the discussion. I would caution everyone not to do any form of mega-dosing of B complex. N-acetyl cysteine is a natural derivative of the amino acid, cysteine. It is the most bioavailable precursor of glutathione peroxidase, one of the body's most important antioxidant enzymes. It provides valuable protection for liver and colon health. I use Twin Labs 600 mg capsules for this. Naltrexone is one of the primary drugs used today for treating opium addictions and alcohol abuse. Because of the way the drug does this, a very smart doctor 25 or so years ago started research on using it in minute dosage levels for treating illnesses that respond to immunotherapy. Things such as MS, ALS, HIV, and rheumatoid arthritis are all in this class and all do respond to its usage. Fortunately for cancer victims, so do they. After contacting the principle researchers and discussing what I am taking and how things are progressing, they have assured me that there is no conflict using this with virtually any vitamin, mineral, or other form of supplement. The only problem comes when someone is using opiates such as morphine to control pain. If you are on opiate based pain killers, this is not the thing to consider unless you can substitute non-narcotic pain medications and slowly wean off the narcotics over a 10 day to 2 week period. There are other limitations such as anyone who has previously undergone hormone therapy for prostate cancer will find that low dose Naltrexone therapy may not work. In essence, a minute amount of Naltrexone taken at bedtime will trigger the production of specific endorphins that stimulate the immune system to naturally fight infections and to deal with cancer cells. It is used in research as a stand-alone therapy. There are very few official sponsored trials being undertaken because of the extreme costs involved. Because this is a drug available in the U.S. as a prescription only, the use of low dosage Naltrexone must be overseen by a medical practitioner. Compounding pharmacies make it up in capsule form. If your doctor will not prescribe for you, please contact me and I will help in any way possible. See the following websites for more information on this very valuable weapon for waging war on all cancers. It is possible for you to make up a batch of Naltrexone for low dose usage by taking a standard 50 mg tablet, dissolving it in 50 ml of distilled water (little less than 2 ounces) and dispensing between 3ml and 4.5 ml of liquid before bedtime with a regular marked eyedropper. When made up as a liquid, this mixture must be refrigerated continually. This is actually one of the cheapest things you can do on top of it all. The cost amounts to roughly $12 per month by prescription. Endorphins account for ninety percent of the beneficial regulation of the immune system and most endorphins are produced by the body between 2 and 4 AM. So, low dose Naltrexone must be taken before this time span to be most effective. NOTE: for a multi-page printout to hand to your doctor explaining the basics about LDN click here: http://goodshape.net/LDNHighlights.html Natural Calm is a water soluble magnesium. After oxygen, water, and food, magnesium is the single most important element needed in your body. It activates over 350 different biochemical reactions including the regulation of the body’s use of calcium, potassium, and sodium. Note that when taking calcium supplements, it is crucial to also take additional magnesium. Magnesium is readily used up by calcium during the absorption process and if there is not a sufficient amount available, what is needed is pulled out of the body reserves. Natural Calm is available in both powder and pill form. Two pills are equal to 1 teaspoon of powder. You can take one pill morning and one pill evening rather than put a teaspoon of powder in a vitamin drink such as I do. Omega-Zyme™ by Garden of Life is the #1 selling digestive enzyme in the Natural Products Industry according to SPINS. It provides more than 20 different digestive enzymes that help process proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and dairy. This allows your body to do a better job of processing the foods you eat so you can get more nutrient value from what you ingest. Pancreatin is a preparation of porcine pancreatic enzymes. Pancreatin naturally contains protease (protein digesting), amylase (carbohydrate digesting), and lipase (fat digesting) enzymes. I use NOW 500mg capsules. Perfect Food® by Garden of Life is the #1 selling Green Food in the Natural Products Industry according to SPINS. It is a powerful whole food formula packed with antioxidant green grasses, micro-algae, sea vegetables, whole vegetables and their juices, sprouted grains, seeds, legumes, and acerola cherries. Serrapeptase is an enzyme first discovered in the silkworm as its means of eating its way out of its chrysalis. For well over 30 years, it has been used in both Europe and the orient as a means of controlling fibrin in the bloodstream, a major cause of blood clots. Health Canada (Canadian version of U.S. FDA) just approved Serrapeptase for this purpose. Of significant note, however, is the fact that the protein covering of cancer cells also has fibrin in its makeup. Therefore, in order to more readily attack this protein shell on cancer cells, the use of Serrapeptase is something that should be done as part of a regimen for fighting cancer. Only coated versions of this supplement should be used so that it can pass through the stomach into the lower intestine for absorption. Shark Liver Oil contains squaline which is an anti-angiogenesis treatment. Squaline is not a protein. It is the first known example of a compound known as an aminosterol or in simple terms a steroid linked to an amino acid. Proteins are readily destroyed by digestive enzymes in the stomach, yet squaline is not effected by them. Cancer cells produce their own blood vessel system. This is known as angiogenesis. One of the response mechanisms of the immune system is to stop this process. However, if the immune system is weakened for whatever reason including age, it may be necessary to supplement this activity by something such as shark liver oil. I use shark liver oil by Swanson Health Products in a softgel. Silymarin/Milk Thistle Extract has been extensively researched in Europe for over 30 years. Silymarin nutritionally supports healthy liver function. I use Now 300mg capsules. Often times this is switched with Dandelion. Now brand incorporates Dandelion in their Silymarin capsules. Thymus, Organic Glandular supports the function of the thymus gland, the master gland of the immune system. I use a product by Allergy Research Group. There are many subtleties in what I am doing. For instance, you will see an inordinate amount of enzymes being used. Enzymes typically break down the food in your stomach. However, I am taking probably 5 to 7 times more than is normally required. Not only do I wish to break down the food, but by taking them when I have no food in my stomach, I am also working on breaking down the protein coating and damaged cell structures of cancer. Enzymes eat more than just the food you ingest. Therefore, it will be one of those things to be radically altered once I put my tumors in submission. The theory here is based upon the research of Dr. Max Gerson who incorporated heavy excesses in enzymes with all his cancer patients which did in fact lead to remarkable success. See my further notes on the subject in the nutrition section under sample menus. Other things are to enhance the function of major organs and to help protect them from toxic overload as the body works to get rid of the cancer. As you age, both thymus and adrenal glands decline in effectiveness. With that degradation of output comes a reduced function level of the immune system; the very thing you need working the hardest. I have chosen to use glandular products. There are also a number of other forms of supplements that can be substituted for these two items. These are not at cross purposes with what I am taking. CO Q10 is a supplement usually taken for heart conditions. The 1200 mg per day I am taking helps to repair cellular level DNA destroyed by cancer. It is also a support supplement for the lymphatic system that is certainly on overload at this point. The multivitamins and the calcium I am taking are not extraordinary from the content standpoint. However, both are ciliated (in liquid form) . The advantage to ciliated is the rapid absorption rate. Other than that, a good quality multivitamin is every bit as effective. The key here is not to buy cheap. It is your life that hangs in the balance and this is not the place to cut corners. Remember especially if you were taking supplements prior to the occurrence of cancer, they were not enough to ward off what you now have. A change is most likely required. Again I will mention the necessity of employing a good health care professional to help establish what is best for you to take. My supplement selection works for me, but may not be the best for your circumstances. NOTICE: There is much controversy in the field of cancer about the value and/or harm of B complex vitamins. At the present time I am researching this further. There is merit to both sides of the discussion. I would caution everyone not to do any form of mega-dosing of B complex. My regimen is very, very complex and for many, it would not work. Again, I am employing 3 completely different protocols which adds several layers of difficulty. Were I to pick and choose, I would do vitamins and minerals and then get myself a Rife machine. The Rife equipment is great for drugless pain control and the magnitude of empirical cancer remission (cures) evidence is just too great to ignore. All of these things individually will work a majority of the time for a majority of the problems. But like life, there are no 100% guarantees. I do not begin to comprehend how long it will take to contain my cancer. I do not expect the tumors to go away quickly. It has taken from 5 to 10 years for them to grow and may take that long for them to go away. I expect to be able to go to a less rigid schedule in within a year, but I just can’t say for sure. Once they are under control, the regimen will become less daunting and allow much more freedom to my life. Whatever happens, even in remission, the lifestyle changes including the eating and nutrition will be with me for as long as I live. Whatever I continue to do is for life. If it works, why in the world would I want to go back to a lifestyle that allowed this to happen to me? And YES, it is possible to work your regular job and maintain a vitamin regimen such as this. The final word for now on this is that everything I am doing can be done in concert with conventional medicine. This cannot be stressed too much. I have chosen not to endure surgery at this point because of the low probability of success. If I thought for a moment that they could just cut out the tumors and my life could continue on part of a kidney, I would be doing it. But everything I see and hear from the doctors says otherwise. So, rather than to go through a lot of pain only to find out that we have achieved little or nothing, I have chosen the course I am now following. Had I chosen the other way, I would still be doing the nutritional changes, the vitamins and minerals, and the other supplements to help get rid of any last vestiges of cancer in my body. Any time you can choose to help your body improve its natural disease fighting capability you are going the right direction. Any time you can reduce your risk for spreading disease by altering your diet or simply taking supplements, you do it. These actions are "gimmies". A lot transpired from the time I was considered on the short track to death. For over 7 months I maintained the regimen found in Daily Dosages and Mixtures that follows this brief discourse. By the end of July with several blood and urine test regimens that had come back completely normal, I decided to gamble a little and pretty much discontinued everything I was doing just to see what would happen. It was almost as risky an undertaking as just doing the supplements, but I needed to find out if the blood work would dramatically change if I quit the very strict regimen I was on. I dropped almost everything supplement-wise and maintained only the low dose Naltrexone and Melatonin from the original regimen. The caveat here is that the diet did not significantly change. I loosened up a little, but did not revert to the fast food, high carb grain diet had eaten for years. I have remained pretty much on what is posted in the nutrition section of this website. I do occasionally treat myself to stuff I totally gave up at the beginning of the battle, but an occasional "treat" is not a resumption of bad eating habits. In addition I have maintained, and will for life, the juicing aspect of our nutrition page. This one act of breaking plant cells down to obtain the maximum amount of phytonutrients is one of the key elements in keeping healthy and alive. I cannot tell you how many people I have had write and tell me that they just do not have time to do this on a regular basis or they don't have time to follow a regimen of any kind to help defeat their cancer. I cannot understand that mentality. I have asked everyone that has written or called me with that comment the following question, "What is it that you are doing that you feel is more important that staying alive?" If you are not willing to help your body heal itself, then what in the world are you bothering to read this for in the first place? YOUR TASK is to heal yourself and maintain a healthy state. I do not care what doctor or program you use. You are ultimately responsible for your own health and if you will not invest a few moments a day in seeing that your body is properly nourished and supported, why in the world do you think you will be successful in containing cancer and keeping it at bay for any length of time? Because this was really uncharted waters for me, I was prepared to go back to what I was doing if I found any single thing out of balance in the blood work, the urinalysis, or even just general feeling I had. After more than 9 months with good blood work and no apparent sign of cancer progressing, I feel as though I do have a stable condition. I still have tumors, but the masses are necrotic (dead tissue) that I assume the body will slowly assimilate over the course of time. I still do not really know what I am facing and certainly cannot predict what the future will bring. I know I feel good and other than being chronically tired, I honestly have not felt this good in years. I do not know how long the tired feeling will continue. It is not as bad as it was and I would assume it too will become a thing of the past as time moves along. All that said, the results as far as I am concerned, are more than adequate. What you are willing to accept as success will be as much of a determination as to where you change the routine to a maintenance level as anything. I can live with dead tissue masses. The body as in essence walled them off and they do not seem to have any effect on my kidney function. So, in reality what difference does it make as to whether or not they are gone or simply dissolve over a period of time?
The first 4 months, the following regimen was done every single day, no breaks, no variations except where I noted that things were added as my research widened. Had I known of these items, they would have been included from the first. Starting 1 May, 2004, I altered the regimen to give 2 days off every 2 weeks. One of the things about cancer is that it does mutate and breaking the cycle does help reduce the chance of mutation around the things being taken. 6:00 am Vitamin Drink (drink ½ of mixture, at least ½ hour before breakfast):
